Making diversity work
Overview
A course for NHS and NGO managers, professionals and staff in how to work successfully in a working environment with diverse minorities. The course offers a cross-cultural approach to dealing with disagreements rooted in race, gender, religion, age, disability, and sexual orientation issues and allows participants to discuss real issues in a confidential, relaxed and supportive environment with a range of participative and fun activities.

- My situation - describing situations, feelings and needs.
- Understanding what lies behind 'difficult' behaviour.
- Understanding values and attitudes.
- Understanding your strengths and opportunities for improvement in managing diversity.
- Strategies for avoiding or resolving diversity based disagreements.
- The 'blind rope' trick for developing interdependence and co-operation.
- The consultant/client activity.
Outcomes
- Resolution of real problems.
- Understanding of causes of diversity problems.
- Strategies for discussing and resolving diversity related issues.
- Using group resources to understand nd resolve diversity issues.
- A sense of confidence and renewed vigour at work.
